Is it possible to FEEL a RFID tag in a dog using your fingers ?

There is a stray dog in our neighborhood, and I would like to know if I can detect a RFID tag in the dog, without going to a veterinarian, simply by feeling the skin for a small lump. where do they put them on the animal ? are they always in the same place ?

The animal is large and I do not have a method of transport to a veterinarian to check. But if I was relatively sure there was one present, then it would certainly be compelling to find suitable transport means. There is no collar, and no report of a dog of this description at the Humane Society or elsewhere. I just want to help find the owner, if there is one.

Thank you for your information.

No. They are too small.

Besides, the owner may have called the vet in question with a description of the lost dog even if the dog isn't chipped.

They are usually placed under the skin on the neck, but I doubt you would every be able to feel it. It is like a tiny grain of rice.
I would call the local humane society so that someone can pick him up, try to locate his owner and rehome him if necessary. Please don't leave him out on the streets.
Good luck.

If an RFID tag is the same thing as a microchip, then sometimes you can. HOWEVER, just because you can't feel it doesn't mean there isn't one. If the dog has a decent amount of sub-Q fat or thick skin you won't be able to feel it. The chances of being able to feel a chip on a large dog is also pretty low (both of my large dogs are lean and I can't feel the chip on either one of them). Microchips are usually inserted just under the skin right between the shoulder blades. However, they can "migrate" to other areas...especially if they have been in place for a while. and just because between the shoulder blades is the standard location, that doesn't mean that someone can't insert it somewhere else. this is why when a vet scans a dog for a chip they start along the back but then run the scanner over the dog's shoulders and belly as well.

No you wouldn't be able to feel a microchip in a dog.
They are all put in between the shoulder blades at the base of the neck.

No you can not feel a microchip. If properly done they are inserted into the muscle. The only to check for a microchip is with a scanner. Most vets can shelters have scanners and will check the dog at no charge.

Bought lunch. Slipped outside. Entire container dumped out. Not even one grain of rice left. Hadn't even taken a bite. Waste of money.

I for one am surprised that there is no homoeopathic food industry. "Dilute a grain of rice 10 trillion times and feed the world!"
